Each Fellow works with CHCS to select a practicum project designed to integrate the key elements of the Medicaid Leadership Institute curriculum and put their leadership development training into practice. The practicums are designed to give the Fellows an opportunity to work on an innovative project in their state that they might not otherwise have the opportunity or resources to tackle. Fellows and their staff receive technical assistance from CHCS and outside experts and have a small pool of funds to use for the practicum.

Dr. Sandeep Wadhwa, Colorado Medicaid Director, spoke to peers and other senior Medicaid staffers during a session entitled Quality Assurance and Improvement: From Basics to Innovation at the second annual Medicaid Boot Camp, hosted by the National Association of State Medicaid Directors (NASMD) and facilitated by the Center for Health Care Strategies.
